Job summary

Halton Borough Council is seeking a seasoned Principal Highways Engineer for a 6 month contract. You will lead highways development control, provide expert guidance on planning consultations, and manage consultants across regeneration projects within a Local Authority setting.

The role requires extensive highways experience, strong stakeholder engagement, and robust report writing. Hybrid working is offered with full-time hours and umbrella-rate pay.

• Extensive highways engineering experience

Responsibilities

• Lead response to planning application consultations with highways input
• Assess highway modelling, infrastructure design and construction proposals
• Oversee highways development control procedures
• Evaluate proposals from developers, consultants, contractors and third parties
• Ensure schemes comply with legislation, standards and best practices
• Prepare briefs and assist in procurement and management of consultants
• Collaborate with internal/external stakeholders to advance highway projects
• Engage with developers, consultants, elected members, partner bodies and the public
• Coordinate maintenance/infrastructure schemes across local/regional boundaries
• Draft technical reports for senior management and policy boards
• Attend meetings, hearings and consultations as required
• Act as deputy for Service Manager when needed
• Stay informed on highways legislation and industry standards
