Job summary

FM Conway is seeking an experienced Senior Engineer to join our Structures Business Unit in Paddington. You will support maintenance programmes across London boroughs, deliver inspections and structural design, and provide technical advice on urgent issues.

You will work with clients and colleagues to plan inspections, prepare cost plans, and produce clear technical reports, while ensuring health and safety and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• A BEng in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
• CEng membership with ICE or IStructE, or working towards MIStructE/MICE.
• Experience with Local Authority structural maintenance regimes.
• Knowledge of Eurocodes.
• Experience using BridgeStation or willingness to learn.
• Competence in AutoCAD and MS Office (Excel/Word).
• Excellent communication and ability to produce clear technical reports.
• Good understanding of health and safety, incl. working at height and confined spaces where required.
• Commercial awareness, costs/invoicing and project performance.
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
• Collaborative approach with clients, colleagues and stakeholders.
• Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Support the delivery of structural maintenance programmes across our Structures team.
• Plan and deliver GI and PI inspections of highway structures, including bridges and related assets.
• Produce annual inspection programmes and cost plans for Local Authority clients.
• Complete inspections and record findings using BridgeStation, per LoBEG specs.
• Respond to USA requirements, investigating incidents such as vehicle strikes or damage.
• Produce technical investigation reports and recommend repair or reinstatement options with costs.
• Investigate damage to basement vaults and provide technical advice.
• Assess abnormal load applications against structure capacities and advise on routes.
• Undertake non-complex structural design for highway improvement schemes.
• Produce Bills of Quantities and bar bending schedules where required.
• Administer Technical Approval (TA) applications in line with highway rules.
• Meet with clients to discuss programmes, costs, and technical requirements.
• Prepare monthly contract reports and monitor costs, forecasts and P&L.
• Monitor KPI targets across maintenance and scheme works.
• Prepare accurate technical reports with minimal supervision.
• Work with clients and stakeholders to resolve technical issues.
• Support other projects and occasional out-of-hours work.
