Job summary

SP Energy Networks in Prenton is seeking a Senior Cable Design Engineer to develop and deliver HV cable engineering solutions from feasibility to detailed design across 33kV-132kV networks in North Wales and North West England.

You'll lead technical work, mentor junior staff, liaise with global teams, ensure safety and regulatory compliance, and contribute to Net Zero goals while benefiting from a hybrid working pattern and a strong benefits package.

Qualifications

• Degree in an Engineering discipline or equivalent practical experience in high-voltage cable engineering.
• Significant proven experience in an accountable position working with high-voltage power cables and equipment.
• Proficiency in Cymcap software for cable design and evaluation.
• Experience preparing Project Quality Plans (PQPs) and ensuring deliverables meet required standards.

Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver cable engineering solutions from feasibility through detailed design for high-value projects.
• Prepare specifications and designs, assess submissions, and ensure compliance with legislation and policies.
• Drive resolution of land and consent matters for underground cable routes and plan outage programmes.
• Review drawings and specifications for construction and procurement, maintaining documentation control.
• Provide specialist input to resolve site/cable issues and promote best practices and safety.
