Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust is seeking an experienced Biomedical Scientist to lead a Haematology section, train staff, and ensure instrument maintenance and reagent handling meet MHRA/UKAS standards.

The role involves developing SOPs, risk assessments, and competency programs; supervising staff; monitoring turnaround times; and deputising for the Lead Biomedical Scientist as needed. A strong CPD record and teaching ability are essential.

Qualifications

• HCPC registered as a Biomedical Scientist or equivalent.
• Demonstrable CPD activity and continuous professional development.
• Excellent teaching and supervisory abilities essential for staff development.

Responsabilités

• Manage a section within the Haematology Department; train new staff.
• Ensure preventative maintenance on laboratory instruments prior to use.
• Prepare, store, and use reagents safely for patient investigations.
• Act to prevent service delivery failures and ensure compliance with MHRA/UKAS standards.
• Prepare and review SOPs, COSHH and risk assessments; participate in method validation and changes.
• Deliver staff training and certify competencies; monitor turnover times and take corrective actions.
• Assist the Lead Biomedical Scientist with audits, reporting, and service meetings.
• Take part in unsocial hours service as required; maintain competency within Haematology and Blood Transfusion frameworks.
