Job summary

Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children is seeking a HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist to lead the Haematology Laboratory in the Paediatric Laboratory Medicine Department. The role requires expertise in routine Haematology and Blood Film Morphology, with responsibility for training, technical support and ensuring the QMS complies with UKAS and ISO:15189 (2022).

Qualifications

• HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist with post-registration Haematology experience
• Evidence of CPD activity and reflective learning
• MSc in Biomedical Science or IBMS Fellowship or equivalent in Haematology
• Registration with HCPC is mandatory

Responsibilities

• Undertake laboratory techniques to a high standard in line with SOPs and troubleshoot assays
• Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and manage preventative maintenance records
• Authorise and report results of investigations and interpret results to aid diagnosis
• Communicate with service users regarding issues affecting the quality of results
• Ensure internal quality control compliance and basic analyser maintenance
• Plan and take responsibility for the organisation of work and staff within the laboratory
• Supervise junior staff and support with technical or scientific issues
