Job summary

Stantec is seeking a Senior/Principal Geotechnical Engineer to join the Southwest & Wales team, working across Bristol, Cardiff and Exeter. You will lead geotechnical investigations, ground modelling and design, delivering robust recommendations for infrastructure and development projects in SW England and Wales.

You will mentor colleagues, contribute to project delivery and develop client relationships while advancing your chartership ambitions in a supportive, hybrid UK environment.

Qualifications

• A degree in Geology, Engineering Geology, Geotechnical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Strong professional experience in geotechnical engineering, engineering geology or geological investigation.
• Experience planning, specifying, supervising and interpreting geotechnical ground investigations.
• The ability to interpret geological and ground investigation data and develop robust ground models.
• A sound understanding of geotechnical principles and the engineering behaviour of soils and rocks.
• Experience undertaking geotechnical assessments, modelling and design.
• Proficiency in relevant software (e.g., Oasys Pile, Rocscience, Plaxis) and Excel.

Responsibilities

• Getting to the ground truth: plan and manage geotechnical ground investigations and surveys.
• Turning data into insight: review borehole logs, labs and ground data to understand site conditions.
• Building robust ground models and interpretations for design decisions.
• Delivering technical excellence: perform geotechnical analysis, modelling and design with industry tools.
• Providing trusted advice: prepare and peer-review geotechnical reports and notes.
• Solving complex challenges: develop practical recommendations for diverse ground conditions.
• Managing geotechnical risk with multidisciplinary teams throughout projects.
• Building relationships with clients, contractors and stakeholders for delivery.
• Sharing expertise: mentor junior colleagues and contribute to team capability.
• Taking responsibility for technical delivery and client relationships as appropriate.
