Senior Finance Support Officer
Band 4 - £33,854 to £36,638
About the role
We are currently seeking to appoint an experienced finance professional to join our Finance team as a Senior Finance Support Officer. You will work alongside the Senior Accountants/Finance Business Partners and Principal Accountants to provide financial support and advice to heads of service, budget holders, elected members, and other stakeholders across our services.
As the Senior Finance Support Officer, you will work with the Business Support Officers providing guidance and support. You will ensure effective resource management, accountability, control, and compliance with internal policies and procedures and statutory obligations. Robust financial advice, guidance and support plays an important part in enabling the Council to deliver a consistently high standard of services to local communities.
You will be involved with the preparation of budgets, provision of financial monitoring during the year and the preparation of financial year-end accounts along with completion of grant claims.
Wyre Forest District Council has a strong track record of financial management and timely completion and publication of statutory Statement of Accounts.
Local government reorganisation is being driven forward by central government, this means that the council will remain sovereign until at least 1 April 2028 after which a new unitary authority will deliver services in the district. This means an exciting time with lots of opportunities to help shape the outlook for local government in the area.
About you
Ideally you will be AAT qualified with considerable experience in the preparation and management of budgets and closure of accounts in a busy organisation. You should have a proven track record of delivering reliable and accurate financial information. You will have a good working knowledge of accounts payable and accounts receivable processes. You will be able to work independently, providing advice to officers at all levels, and also work well as part of a team.
Flexibility is key, as you will work in a fast-paced environment with competing deadlines and priorities. Strong IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word, and experience with finance systems are essential.
No candidate will meet every single desired qualification so if your experience looks a little different from what we’ve identified and you think you can bring value to the role, we’d love to learn more about you.
What We Offer:
The closing date for applications is 13th July 2025, but we reserve the right to close applications early if we receive a high volume of suitable applications.
