Job summary

Network Rail in Milton Keynes is seeking an experienced energy and carbon professional to provide strategic leadership within the Route Services Environment & Sustainable Development team. The role focuses on driving energy efficiency, carbon reduction and clear, practical actions from complex data and sustainability objectives.

Qualifications

• Batchelor’s degree in Engineering or demonstrable equivalent experience/qualifications.
• Chartered Membership of a recognised professional body (EMA, CIBSE, Energy Institute, IMechE, IET) or working towards it.
• Proven track record in energy management, carbon reduction, or related sustainability roles.
• Good understanding of energy, carbon management processes and current energy, carbon, and environmental legislation.
• Demonstrated expertise in applying energy and carbon management system standards (ISO 50001, ISO 14064, LEED, BREEAM) within organisational frameworks.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Strategic thinker with problem-solving skills in a dynamic environment with minimal supervision.
• Proficiency in data analysis and reporting with ability to present insights.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership to Route Services Environment & Sustainable Development team.
• Collate and process business intelligence information and provide guidance on technical environmental queries.
• Support E&SD comms and sustainability campaigns including weekly highlights.
• Travel to sites nationwide for travel to sites, suppliers or activities as required.
