Job summary

DCS Engineering is seeking an experienced Design Manager to take ownership of permanent works design coordination across major infrastructure projects in the UK. You will work with project, design, commercial and construction teams to ensure compliant, buildable and cost-effective solutions delivered to programme.

The role involves managing design resources, external designers and multidisciplinary teams, promoting BIM, and ensuring design activities meet CDM and health & safety requirements.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Design Manager within infrastructure, construction or major projects."
• Strong understanding of design management and permanent works.
• Good knowledge of UK design standards, CDM and relevant construction requirements.
• Experience managing design consultants, subcontractors and multidisciplinary design teams.
• Experience with design assurance, technical compliance and change management.
• Good understanding of buildability and construction processes.
• Experience working with BIM and collaborative design processes.
• Commercial awareness, including experience with early warnings and compensation events.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver design activities to programme.

Responsibilities

• Lead the management and coordination of permanent works design across major infrastructure projects.
• Manage design resources, consultants and subcontracted design packages.
• Develop and maintain project-specific design management arrangements in line with quality and client requirements.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary design inputs, interfaces and design assurance activities.
• Manage design changes and ensure technical compliance throughout the project lifecycle.
• Work with project and construction teams to ensure designs are practical, buildable and safe.
• Support value engineering and the development of efficient design solutions.
• Promote BIM and collaborative approaches to design delivery.
• Ensure design activities comply with CDM and relevant health and safety requirements.
• Support commercial aspects of design management, including early warnings and compensation events.
• Contribute to sustainability and carbon reduction objectives.
