Job summary

SP Energy Networks in Cambuslang is seeking a Senior Design Engineer (Main Plant) to develop and deliver engineering solutions for transmission networks (132kV+). You will produce designs, review tenders and ensure compliance with legislation and standards, while guiding project teams through design, construction and commissioning phases.

Ideal candidates hold an Engineering degree or HND with relevant experience, strong communication, and knowledge of CDM regulations.

Qualifications

• Degree in Engineering, or HND with relevant industry experience.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Knowledge of CDM regulations and health & safety best practice within a design environment.
• Understanding of transmission substation plant and associated equipment.
• Experience of electrical infrastructure projects and transmission or distribution networks.
• Knowledge of Switchgear, Transformers, Transmission Systems or Distribution Network Design (33kV to 400kV).
• Minimum Criteria Engineering Degree or HND with relevant experience.
• Experience in electrical substation design for infrastructure projects.
• Knowledge of transmission and/or distribution network plant and equipment.
• Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver Main Plant engineering solutions for transmission networks (132kV and above).
• Produce engineering designs and specifications for switchgear, transformers and other primary plant equipment.
• Review tender submissions, assess technical compliance and approve design drawings and documentation.
• Ensure designs meet current legislation, operational requirements and industry standards.
• Provide technical guidance during design, construction and commissioning, resolving complex site issues.
• Prepare engineering documentation and deliverables in line with project quality requirements.
• Champion health, safety, environmental and quality standards across all activities.
