Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Produce designs and specifications for switchgear, transformers and primary plant equipment.
• Review tender submissions for technical compliance and approve drawings.
• Ensure designs meet legislation, requirements and standards.
• Provide technical guidance during design, construction and commissioning.
• Prepare engineering documentation in line with quality requirements.
• Champion health, safety, environmental and quality standards.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions.
• Support knowledge sharing for new technologies and equipment.

What you'll be doing

• Develop and deliver Main Plant engineering solutions for transmission networks (132kV and above), producing engineering specifications, designs and technical support throughout the project lifecycle. The role includes design calculations, reports, drawings, standards development and technical expertise for Main Plant equipment installations across ScottishPower Transmission projects.
• Develop Main Plant and auxiliary equipment requirements for project specifications, authorisations and construction programmes.
• Produce engineering designs and specifications for switchgear, transformers and other primary plant equipment.
• Review tender submissions, assess technical compliance and approve design drawings and documentation.
• Ensure designs meet current legislation, operational requirements and industry standards.
• Provide technical guidance during design, construction and commissioning, resolving complex site issues.
• Prepare engineering documentation and deliverables in line with project quality requirements.
• Champion health, safety, environmental and quality standards across all activities.
• Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated engineering solutions.
• Support technical training and knowledge sharing for new technologies and equipment.

What You'll Bring

• Degree in Engineering, or HND with relevant industry experience.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Knowledge of CDM regulations and health & safety best practice within a design environment.
• Understanding of transmission substation plant and associated equipment.
• Experience of electrical infrastructure projects and transmission or distribution networks.
• Knowledge of one or more of the following: Switchgear, Transformers, Transmission Systems or Distribution Network Design (33kV to 400kV).

Minimum Criteria

• Engineering Degree or HND with relevant experience.
• Experience in electrical substation design for infrastructure projects.
• Knowledge of transmission and/or distribution network plant and equipment.
• Full UK driving licence.
