Job summary

Collins Aerospace in Wolverhampton is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to lead the design of electric actuation systems for aerospace nacelles in a new facility. You will work with global teams to translate requirements into robust electro‑mechanical designs.

Responsibilities include generating concepts, supporting the full design lifecycle, mentoring junior engineers, and contributing to risk and qualification activities with travel <10%.

Qualifications

• Design and development experience in a design engineering environment.
• Strong understanding of machine design and electro‑mechanical product development.
• Experience developing mechanical or electro‑mechanical systems throughout the lifecycle.
• Proven problem solving and analytical skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, and ability to work in multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong organisational and planning skills with attention to detail.
• Passion for engineering excellence and continuous development.

Responsibilities

• Generating innovative design concepts and product configurations for electro‑mechanical actuation systems
• Supporting all stages of the design lifecycle from requirements through detailed design and qualification
• Developing robust, lightweight, cost‑effective engineering solutions
• Producing manufacturing data packages including drawings and tolerance analyses
• Leading and supporting detailed design activities within multidisciplinary teams
• Ensuring compliance with customer, regulatory and in‑service requirements
• Supporting system integration and installation activities across actuation systems
• Conducting design reviews and presenting to stakeholders
• Supporting risk identification, mitigation and design assurance
• Investigating product issues during development, qualification, production and service
• Providing technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers and graduates
• Supporting technology roadmap development and future capability growth
• Collaborating with global engineering teams to share best practices
• Engaging with customers for new business opportunities
