Overview

CNTW NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Senior Clin ical Psychologist to join the Older Person's inpatient team for 6 months sickness cover. The role focuses on leadership and management, specialist assessment and interventions, and support for complex case management.

At St George's Park there are two older adult mixed gender wards (one functional and one organic). The team includes a full-time Higher Assistant Psychologist across both wards and a part-time Nurse Systemic Practitioner on the functional ward. Psychology is well respected within the North Inpatient CBU, reflected in the ongoing expansion of psychological input across acute, rehab and older adults inpatient wards.

The role would suit those who have an interest in working with older adults with both organic and mental health difficulties.

We are looking for an enthusiastic clinician with previous inpatient experience and substantial experience working with MDTs within pressured and busy systems. The post holder will be supervised by the Associate Psychological Services Director.

Main duties of the job

As a Senior Psychologist in an established multi-disciplinary service you will be responsible for providing high quality evidence-based psychological assessments, neuropsychological assessments, formulations and therapy to older adults.

The post-holder will have the opportunity to:

• Provide assessment, formulation and interventions
• Provide and supervise neuropsychological assessments in screening and diagnostically related assessments
• Facilitate team formulations across both wards, utilising the Newcastle model on the organic ward
• Utilise and develop the full extent of clinical and non-clinical skills, working with people admitted with a broad range of mental health problems
• Design and deliver training to ward-based staff and MDT colleagues specifically relevant to their needs
• Provide clinical and at times management supervision to others
• Support staff wellbeing across the MDT, including facilitating team supervision

The post holder is to be aware there is a permanent resident therapy dog in the department.

Person Specification

Education and Qualification

• Doctoral level training in clinical psychology, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and Neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology as accredited by the HCPC and British Psychological Society.
• HCPC registered practitioner psychologist

Knowledge and Experience

• Knowledge of the theory and practice of specialist psychological therapies in specific difficult to treat groups relevant to the client group
• Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinical sensitive information to clients, their family, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
• Doctoral level knowledge of research methodology, research design and complex multivariable data analysis as practiced within the clinical fields of psychology.
• Evidence of continuing professional development as required by the HCPC.
• Formal training in clinical supervision of trainee clinical psychologists and other staff.

Skills and Competencies

• Experience of neuropsychology assessment
• Skills in managing emotional impact of dealing with highly emotive and distressing situations through self-management and use of the clinical supervision process.
• Specialist skills in evidence-based psychological interventions.
