We are excited to announce an opening for a Paediatric Surgery post at ST3+ level on the middle grade rota. This 12-month position offers an opportunity to gain experience in neonatal surgery, general and subspecialist paediatric surgery, and urology, as part of a dynamic and supportive team.

While this post is not approved for educational purposes by the Postgraduate Dean, you will still benefit from the same teaching and training opportunities as other Higher Specialist and Core Surgical Trainees.

About You:

Registered Medical Practitioner with MRCS, FRCS, or equivalent.

Current registration with the General Medical Council (GMC).

Experience in Paediatric Surgery at SHO or Registrar level.

Demonstrated skills and competence appropriate to your training stage.

Evidence of sustained progress through your medical career.

Main duties of the job

Reporting into the Clinical Lead (PS), your responsibilities will include:

Work as part of the middle grade rota, gaining hands-on experience in our 12-bedded Neonatal Surgical Unit, managing newborn infants and children with congenital malformations and other surgical conditions. This includes those requiring complex neonatal surgery.

Provide high-quality care across a range of paediatric surgical specialties, including Urology, Surgical Gastroenterology, Thoracic Surgery, and Oncology.

Participate in pre-operative assessments, operative procedures, and post-operative care, with a focus on minimal access techniques.

Qualifications
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • MRCPCH or equivalent
  • APLS/PALS and NLS provider – courses can be accessed at the beginning of the post if required
  • Fully registered with the GMC
  • APLS/PALS/NLS/PANSTAR instructor
Experience
  • The appointees must have relevant experience in paediatrics and neonatal medicine
  • Paediatric Intensive care experience is required- ideally ST4-8 level
  • Tertiary neonatal experience
Knowledge & Skills
  • Capacity to apply sound clinical knowledge & judgement. Potential to develop excellent diagnostic skills
  • Evidence of achievement of Foundation Competencies by time of appointment in line with GMC standards/Good Medical Practice
  • Evidence of involvement in clinical audit
  • Demonstrates understanding of importance of audit, risk management & research
  • Leadership Skills: Ability to work as part of a multi disciplinary team and take on leadership functions
  • Communication Skills: particularly in dealing with medical colleagues, nurses and parents both within the service and with other Trusts
  • Commitment to continuing personal professional development
  • Evidence of relevant academic & research achievements , e.g. degrees, prizes, awards, distinctions, publications, presentations, other achievements
