Job Summary

These opportunities are for Senior Clinical Fellows with training opportunities in Nevill Hall Hospital (NHH), Abergavenny in South Wales. The posts will primarily be based in the care of the elderly specialty with the opportunity to gain specific experience across the medical specialities including Endocrine and Acute medicine.

The expectation of the role is to provide middle grade support as part of a multi-disciplinary team in a 28‑32 bedded sub‑specialty ward. The post holder will carry out independent ward rounds in the unit in addition to consultant‑led ward rounds.

The post holder will be expected to participate in the on call which is currently 1:10. The medical assessment unit is comprised of 21 trolleys/beds and 3 assessment spaces, which the post holder will be covering when on‑call.

The successful candidates will be able to access training across the medical specialties and a variety of accredited training courses, under the supervision of RCP trainers. Audit and QI projects will be a requirement of the post and the post is supported by a dedicated research lead based in Cardiff University for anyone interested in research.

Responsibilities
  • Provide effective and appropriate medical care of inpatients admitted under the care of the Consultant Physician.
  • Assess, monitor, and initiate treatment with colleagues and under consultant supervision.
  • Attend consultant and multidisciplinary ward rounds, and supervise relevant junior medical students who may rotate through the directorate.
  • Undertake regular unsupervised ward rounds on the relevant ward to ensure patients are making satisfactory progress.
  • Complete discharge summaries in a timely fashion.
  • Attend clinic as part of continuing professional development.
  • Research and service outcome evaluation will be the key part of this job and you will have one session for this as part of this clinical fellow post.
