Job description

Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust (LGT) is a community-focused provider of local and acute care, delivering high-quality services to over one million people across the London boroughs of Lewisham, Greenwich, and Bexley. We support our communities to live healthier lives and provide care when needed.

Employing nearly 7,500 colleagues, known as Team LGT, we operate at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich, University Hospital Lewisham, and other community settings. We also offer some services at Queen Mary's Hospital in Sidcup.

Our recent launch of new vision and values coincides with our 10th anniversary in 2013. Our vision is to be exceptional in patient care, support for colleagues, and community partnerships. We value Respect, Compassion, Inclusion, Accountability, Listening, and Succeeding together, emphasizing continuous improvement and collaboration.

Our hospitals and community sites offer a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services, including emergency and planned care. The Trust is rated 'good' or 'outstanding' in over 75% of services inspected by the Care Quality Commission.

Annually, we perform 10,000 procedures, support 7,500 births, conduct 570,000 community visits, and provide emergency care for over 300,000 patients. We are also a center for education and training for medical students, nurses, midwives, and allied health professionals, and one of the largest employers of physician associates in the UK.

We actively collaborate within the South East London Integrated Care System and other partnerships to improve outcomes for our communities.

Job overview

We handle approximately 13,000 elective and emergency gynecology admissions yearly, with a mixture of day cases and theatre lists. Our outpatient services include colposcopy, urogynaecology, infertility, hysteroscopy, and cancer services. Specialist obstetric services include fetal medicine, diabetes, HIV, mental health, and twin antenatal clinics. A new midwifery-led unit is planned at QE Hospital.

Opportunities exist to develop specialist skills in areas like Colposcopy, early pregnancy scanning, and minimal access clinics. The service is delivered across two sites, with 24 consultants providing both obstetrics and gynecology services.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will participate in a 1:13 full shift rota covering Obstetrics and Gynecology, supported by a team including SHOs, registrars, and a resident consultant. This role offers excellent opportunities for skill development towards specialty applications and NHS systems experience.

Working for our organization

We prioritize our staff's well-being, fostering a culture of engagement through initiatives like staff networks and diversity programs aimed at improving representation, widening access, and enhancing staff experience and literacy in equality and diversity.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This is a fixed-term post until September 2025, ideal for a motivated doctor seeking to develop skills in obstetrics and gynecology, with support for training and governance activities, including audit and presentations.
