CHILDREN'S SERVICES
CLINICAL FELLOW IN PAEDIATRIC INTENSIVE CARE

(ST3+ EQUIVALENT ANAESTHETICS and PAEDIATRICIANS WITH PICU EXPERIENCE)
Duration: 6-12 MONTHS

Two posts are available within the Department of Paediatric Intensive Care at St George's University Hospital, London. These posts are available to start in September 2025 for 6 months and can be extended up to 12 months. The post-holder will be included in the EWTD compliant on-call rota.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will have the opportunity to engage in training in the Anaesthetic Department to gain basic airway skills or in the Paediatric Emergency Department, depending on the individual trainee's needs. The post is suitable for a paediatrician seeking experience in tertiary paediatrics and intensive care or a doctor exploring a career in paediatrics.

About us

St. George's Hospital is a large multi-speciality facility based in South West London, offering a wide range of adult, paediatric, and neonatal services. It is co-located with St. George's, University of London. The Paediatric department includes outpatient services, Paediatric Intensive Care, a child development centre, and five wards with 54 inpatient beds. The department has 30 consultants, a fully staffed EWTD compliant middle grade and ST rota, including grid trainees, regional trainees, fellows, and F1 doctors. The PICU has 14 beds providing PICU and HDU level care to approximately 700 patients annually, serving as part of the South Thames PICU Network with Evelina Children's Hospital and Kings College Hospital.

Qualifications and Training
  • Full GMC registration
  • MRCPCH / FRCA (Primary) or equivalent
  • BLS training
  • ACLS/PALS/EPLS/NLS certification
  • Teaching qualifications
Experience
  • Ability to assess patients through detailed history and physical examination
  • Capability to develop management plans
  • Experience in triaging priorities
  • Experience caring for inpatient neonates and children
  • Prior SpR experience in a tertiary hospital
  • Prior PICU experience
  • Experience in assessing infants and children in A+E
Skills
  • Central Venous Cannulation
  • Enthusiasm for teaching skills to others
Knowledge
  • Intermediate knowledge of anaesthesia
  • Willingness to learn
