Gilbert Bain Hospital is offering a unique and exciting Anaesthetic Locum Appointment for training in Remote and Rural Anaesthesia (Ref: 213730). The fixed-term position is from February 2026 for 6 months, full-time (40 hours/week), with a Distant Island Allowance of £2,380 per annum (pro-rata).
This post provides experience in a remote island hospital and is suitable for trainees at ST6/ST7 stage considering work in remote UK areas. It offers broad experience in a senior generalist role and is recognized by The Royal College of Anaesthetists for advanced training in Anaesthesia.
Responsibilities include elective and emergency anaesthetic and critical care services across all age groups, with support from hospital teams, Scottish retrieval services, and mainland colleagues. Opportunities for non-clinical hospital management work and contribution to training are also available.
The appointee will need an MBChB or recognized equivalent, FRCA or recognized equivalent, currently be in a Type I training post, hold a National/Visiting Training Number, and be at ST6 or ST7 at the start.
