Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Senior/Associate Principal Engineer to lead civil and bridge design across UK projects. You will collaborate with national and international teams, manage technical documentation, and guide junior staff.

You'll drive bids, develop client relationships, and oversee scopes, budgets, and programs. The role requires a Civil/Structural Engineering degree, CEng/IEng and ICE/IStructE membership, and experience with Rail/Network Rail standards.

Qualifications

• A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or a related discipline.
• A professional qualification (CEng/IEng) and membership of the ICE or IStructE.
• Experience with key clients such as Network Rail, National Highways or local authorities as well as major Contractors and Developers.
• Good understanding of Eurocodes, DMRB, MCHW and Network Rail standards.
• Experience of bridge design, maintenance and assessment or Railway Civil Engineering projects.
• Experience with structural analysis software such as LUSAS, MIDAS, Autodesk Structural Bridge Design; also ABAQUS/ANSYS/NASTRAN.
• Strong interpersonal, stakeholder communication and collaboration across disciplines.
• Project management, commercial awareness, ability to deliver across contract types and manage stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Develop high‑quality civil and structural designs for bridges and railway civils.
• Lead collaboration with national and international design teams.
• Oversee production of sketches, drawings, calculations, reports and specs.
• Provide guidance to junior staff and supervise technical work.
• Lead bids, tenders, and client relationship development.
• Manage scopes, budgets and delivery programs for projects.
• Apply engineering judgment to evaluate options and select best solutions.
• Coordinate multi‑disciplinary inputs and ensure design quality.
