Job summary

BakerHicks is seeking a Senior Engineer – Bridges in the United Kingdom. You will deliver bridge design and consultancy, supervise projects and mentor Early Careers, while ensuring quality and compliance across disciplines.

The role requires Chartered status, extensive bridge experience, and ability to manage small packages within larger projects. A driving licence and security clearance are required. You’ll join a committed team focused on high-quality output.

Qualifications

• Degree qualified in Civil and/or Structural Engineering (or equivalent).
• Chartered or Incorporated Member of ICE or IStructE (or equivalent).
• Experience delivering projects in highway and/or rail sectors; security clearance eligibility.

Responsibilities

• Provide bridge engineering design and consultancy services under the direction of the line manager or project lead.
• Undertake bridge design and assessment calculations and structural analysis.
• Produce bridge design deliverables (drawings, specifications and technical reports), site surveys, construction stage duties, client liaison, project management, costing and progress against the project brief.
• Check calculations and detailed drawings to ensure designs meet quality and compliance controls.
• Collaborate with multi-disciplinary design team to deliver safe, efficient and buildable solutions.
• Contribute to enquiry plans, tender reviews, fee estimates, scopes of work and change controls.
• Provide feedback on the department performance from a technical and operational perspective.
• Review subcontractors' production calculations and drawings for compliance with design intent.
