Job summary

iwoca is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to own the Lending API in Germany, shaping its evolution and driving partner integrations through the developer portal and testing environments. You will lead design, API standards, and a roadmap with the product manager, while mentoring junior engineers and aligning German and UK requirements.

Responsibilities include end-to-end ownership of the API, improving broker onboarding, and automating CRM workflows.

Qualifications

• Backend engineering: designed and built production backend systems in Python (Django preferred; FastAPI/Flask acceptable).
• APIs: built and evolved APIs with clear versioning and maintainability.
• Ownership: delivered from problem scoping to production; trade-offs and iterative improvement.
• Mentoring: supported engineers via code reviews and design sessions.
• AI leverage: built agentic workflows or used AI to scale engineering output.

Responsibilities

• Own the Lending API in Germany end to end; decide what to build and when to release.
• Own the developer portal and partner tooling for integration and testing.
• Ship features to speed up partner onboarding and pre-qualification.
• Automate broker funnel parts and CRM to reduce friction and improve decisions.
• Set technical direction and contribute to product roadmap with the PM.
• Collaborate with UK engineers on API designs and align with German requirements.
• Mentor and lead the team as the most senior engineer; support rotation with the team.
