Job summary

iwoca is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer for its Payments Infrastructure team in hybrid London. You will own card payments services that approve payments, monitor fraud, and pay cashback, building a scalable platform for iwoca's business card.

You’ll shape the architecture with the principal engineer, partner with product to decide priorities, and take new services into production, driving reliability and performance in payments at scale.

Qualifications

• Payment systems design and operation in production, with low latency.
• Card payment flows tracing from terminal to issuer with decoding declines.
• Backend engineering with OO language and distributed systems concepts.
• Clear, concise communication tailored to the audience.

Responsibilities

• Own services end-to-end and shape the platform's architecture with the principal engineer.
• Collaborate with product to decide what the team builds and how.
• Take new services into production and scale payments within card scheme rules.
• Grow payments expertise alongside the principal engineer.
• Develop and refine the card payments platform to support fraud monitoring and cashback.
