Job summary

iwoca is seeking a senior backend engineer to design and build the payments platform behind its business card. You will own services end-to-end, shape architecture with the principal engineer, and ensure real-time authorisation, risk monitoring, and rewards payouts are robust.

You will collaborate with ledger, fraud and customer product teams and push new services into production. The role emphasizes technical challenge: scaling payments within card scheme rules and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• Experience designing and running highly available, low-latency payment systems.
• Experience with card authorisation and clearing and tracing transactions.
• Deep backend programming experience in an OO language.
• Experience with distributed systems and microservices architecture.
• Experience applying AI to scale engineering output.

Responsibilities

• Own services end-to-end and shape platform architecture with the principal engineer.
• Collaborate with product to decide features and delivery plans, and take services into production.
• Scale payments within card scheme rules and regulatory requirements, with rigorous testing and monitoring.
