Job summary

Affil is seeking a Senior Software Engineer (Backend) for an international remit. This remote UK role offers a base pay range and equity, with teams across Europe including the UK, Spain and Poland. You will own backend delivery for quarterly goals, shape architecture and collaborate across product, design, and analytics.

The team focuses on scalable, reliable payments platforms, with emphasis on security and operational readiness. Visa sponsorship is not available.

Qualifications

• 4+ years designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale using Python or Kotlin.
• Proven ability to build highly available distributed systems with AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes.
• Ability to define a technical plan for delivering a major feature with an elegant design.
• Deliver high-quality code that is easy to understand and reuse.
• Take ownership of personal growth, seeking feedback from team, manager and stakeholders.
• Strong verbal and written communication for global collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Own and deliver quarterly goals for your team, guiding engineers through ambiguity to solve problems.
• Collaborate with product management, design and analytics in ideation and decisions.
• Identify and lead resolution of project, process, technology or business issues.
• Support operations and availability by monitoring metrics and on-call efforts.
• Set and improve code review and design standards across the team.
