Job summary

Affirm, Inc. is hiring a Staff Software Engineer, Backend (Identity International) for the Identity team.

This remote UK role focuses on building scalable backend systems to enable global market expansion, with emphasis on data management, KYC and decisioning capabilities across non-North America markets. You will lead technical strategy for a year, collaborate with product, design and analytics, and drive architectural changes that improve trust and revenue while reducing fraud exposure.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale using Python or Kotlin.
• Extensive track record of developing highly available distributed systems using AWS, MySQL, Spark and Kubernetes.
• Experience delivering major features with clear technical and execution plans; write high quality code.
• Ability to navigate ambiguity, from low level idioms to large system architecture.
• Growth mindset with ability to gather and iterate on feedback from peers.
• Strong verbal and written communication for collaboration with global teams.

Responsibilities

• Set technical strategy for your team on a year-long horizon and align with business priorities.
• Collaborate across product management, design and analytics to ensure sustainability and risk transparency.
• Act as a force-multiplier for your team by defining technical solutions and operational processes.
• Own your team’s operations and availability with monitoring, triage, playbooks and on-call readiness.
• Define and enforce code review and design standards; advocate across teams.
• Develop talent by providing feedback and leadership by example.
