Job summary

affirm is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Identity International) to own backend systems for global identity checks, primarily working remotely from the UK. You will shape quarterly technical direction, translate goals into concrete projects, and drive improvements in performance, availability and scale across cross-border environments.

You will code primarily in Kotlin and Python, design across system boundaries, and mentor teammates while crafting robust, maintainable platforms

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale using Python or Kotlin.
• Experience building highly available distributed systems with AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes.
• Defined technical plans for the delivery of a significant feature or system component with an elegant, simple and extensible design.
• Strong ownership, proactive feedback, and effective cross-team collaboration and communication.

Responsibilities

• Own and deliver quarterly goals for your team, guiding engineers through ambiguity to solve open-ended problems.
• Collaborate with product management, design and analytics to articulate constraints and trade-offs.
• Identify and lead resolution of project, process, technology or business issues.
• Support operations and availability by monitoring metrics and on-call efforts.
• Elevate code quality by setting and improving review standards and design practices.
• Develop talent by giving feedback, mentoring, and leading by example.
