Job summary

Mimica is seeking a senior backend engineer to scale the platform’s backend (MERN). You will design scalable architecture, build APIs, and optimize services while taking operational ownership of what you build.

You will join an early engineering team shaping technical direction, processes and culture with a focus on performance, reliability and security. Fully remote role across UK, Americas, or Europe.

Qualifications

• Background in backend engineering focusing on high-performance production software and scalable architectures.
• Minimum 8 years of experience as a Software Engineer.
• Proficiency in TypeScript and experience with modern frameworks/technologies (Docker, K8s).
• Experience designing APIs and managing databases (PostgreSQL, MongoDB).
• Understanding of distributed systems: microservices, load balancing, caching, scaling, stateless architectures.
• Commitment to high engineering standards, code quality, reliability and security.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills; able to decompose systems to find bottlenecks.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to architectural decisions and collaborate across teams to implement product improvements.
• Develop and optimize a real-time backend service enabling multi-user graph data edits and retraining AI models.
• Create libraries and build APIs in Node.js to interact with ML components.
• Identify fault-tolerance, availability issues and performance bottlenecks and resolve them.
• Refactor components and document implementations.
• Provide feedback via pair programming and code reviews to help peers grow.
• Participate in hiring and onboarding, taking on end-to-end project management as we grow.
