Job summary

Pleo is seeking a Senior Analytics Engineer to own the semantic layer and analytics standards across the Data Services & Governance function. You will define canonical metrics, build scalable dbt architectures, and lead an AE community of practice while embracing AI-native tooling in a governed analytics context.

You will collaborate with data engineers, backend teams, and stakeholders to ensure consistent data contracts and AI-ready data definitions across the Analytics Warehouse and platform.

Qualifications

• Deep demonstrated expertise in dbt and modelling practices: you can defend trade-offs, teach them, and enforce them in teams you don’t manage.
• Deep BigQuery and SQL expertise, including performance, cost considerations, and the architectural challenges of complex analytical domains.
• Real experience owning a semantic layer (LookML, dbt MetricFlow, or equivalent). You have a point of view on metric consistency at scale.
• AI-native development practice in a data engineering context. You use AI coding tools as a genuine part of how you work and can assess value vs risk.
• A track record of setting standards across teams you don’t directly manage and making them stick by influencing rather than authority.
• Understanding of what LLMs and agentic tools need from a data layer to deliver consistent runtime answers.
• Proven experience engaging with backend engineers on data contracts and with senior stakeholders on semantic layer strategy.

Responsibilities

• Own the semantic layer: define metric definitions, where they live, and how enforced, for a canonical MRR/churn definition.
• Set data modelling standards for the function: clean, layered, well-tested dbt architecture across domains.
• Build and run the Analytics Engineering community of practice: reviews, patterns, docs, onboarding.
• Own the AI-native development practice within governed analytics codebase; evaluate AI tooling in production.
• Lead responsible AI-augmented migration work to accelerate data modelling across platforms.
• Design data models and metrics definitions enabling AI services without human intervention.
• Engage with backend engineers on data contracts and with product teams on data schema ownership.
• Contribute to Data & AI Products for external analytics capabilities growth.
