Job summary

AWE is seeking a Senior AI-Assisted Software Engineer to own secure, high-quality software delivered with AI-enabled development tools. You will translate business needs into robust applications and mentor junior developers within the AI Capability Development team.

You'll work mostly onsite at RG7 4PR, with flexible working options and a 9-day fortnights pattern. The role emphasizes governance, security, and continuous learning in a sensitive, defence-aligned environment.

Qualifications

3-5+ years of software engineering experience.
Experience with modern development practices and tools.
Strong software development skills.

Responsibilities

Deliver robust software solutions from design through release, using AI-assisted tools to speed delivery while maintaining quality.
Ensure technical soundness and quality of outputs, enforcing best practices in coding, testing, and documentation.
Pilot and integrate new AI-assisted engineering tools and methodologies to keep the team at the forefront of software engineering trends.
Mentor and coach junior developers in code craftsmanship and AI-assisted development.
Collaborate with AI Adoption teams, data engineers, and IT infrastructure to ensure smooth deployment into operations.
Uphold safety, security, and Responsible AI guidelines, documenting model usage and maintaining governance.
Drive a results-oriented approach with measurable improvements in development cycle times and system performance.
