This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys taking ownership, solving problems and keeping busy school operations running smoothly. • Providing practical support to teachers, support staff and other colleagues.
  • Coordinating routine office tasks and helping manage changing workloads.
  • Supporting administrative arrangements for school activities and pupil-related processes.
  • Sharing information effectively and helping maintain a calm, professional office environment.
  • Taking a flexible, solutions-focused approach when unexpected priorities arise.
The qualities that will make you successful

This position calls for more than excellent administration. The school needs someone who can take responsibility, use sound judgement and remain composed when several things need attention at once.

You will ideally bring:
  • Previous experience in a senior administrative, school office or office coordination role.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise competing demands.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Confidence using Microsoft Office, email, spreadsheets, databases and administrative systems.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to accurate record keeping.
  • The ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
  • A friendly, approachable manner when dealing with parents, pupils, colleagues and visitors.
  • The confidence to work independently, use initiative and resolve routine issues.

  • A commitment to safeguarding, confidentiality and the wellbeing of children.
Experience that would be an advantage

Experience working in a primary school or another educational setting would be beneficial, particularly if you have used a school management information system such as Arbor or SIMS.

Knowledge of school office procedures, pupil admissions, attendance processes, safeguarding administration or education-related compliance would also be valuable. Candidates with strong transferable administrative experience and the ability to learn new systems quickly are encouraged to apply.

Your working environment

You will be based within the school's administrative team, working closely with senior leaders, teachers, support staff, pupils, families and external professionals.

The role offers variety and responsibility. Some days will involve planned administrative work and detailed record keeping; others will require quick thinking, calm communication and the ability to respond to unexpected requests.

The successful candidate will understand that the school office is an essential part of the wider school community. A professional, helpful and reassuring approach can make a real difference to the experience of families and staff alike.

What you can look forward to

  • Close collaboration with school leadership and colleagues across the school.
  • The opportunity to contribute ideas and improve administrative processes.
  • A role where organisation, initiative and reliability are recognised as essential.

  • The satisfaction of helping the school community operate effectively every day.
Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All staff are expected to share this commitment and follow the school's safeguarding and child protection procedures.

The successful applicant will be required to complete appropriate pre-employment checks, including an enhanced DBS check where applicable, and provide satisfactory references. The postholder must also comply with the school's policies on confidentiality, data protection, health and safety and professional conduct.

If you are an experienced administrator who enjoys taking ownership, supporting colleagues and keeping essential processes on track, we would welcome your application.

This is an excellent opportunity to bring your organisational strengths to a primary school in Basingstoke and play a key role in the smooth running of its daily operations.
