Southampton City Council is seeking a senior Infrastructure Engineer (3rd Line) to provide expert support across a hybrid Microsoft and data-centre environment. You will lead complex incident resolution, drive infrastructure improvements, and develop automation and runbooks for frontline council services.

The role requires hands-on experience with M365, Exchange Hybrid, Azure, AD and Windows/Linux servers, plus SCCM/Intune/SCOM.

Qualifications

• 3rd line infrastructure experience in an enterprise environment.
• Strong experience with Microsoft 365, Exchange Online and Hybrid.
• Hands-on with Azure / Entra ID and Azure AD Connect.
• Deep knowledge of on-prem Active Directory and Windows Server infrastructure.
• Experience with Windows Server 2019–2025 and Linux servers.
• Experience administering SCCM, Intune and SCOM.
• Strong PowerShell scripting and automation skills.
• Experience with VMware and/or Hyper-V virtualization.
• Experience supporting SAN storage and enterprise backup platforms.
• Ability to troubleshoot multisystem cloud and on-prem issues.

Responsabilités

• Provide third line technical support across infrastructure platforms.
• Support and enhance hybrid Microsoft estate including M365, Azure, Entra ID and Exchange Hybrid.
• Administer and maintain on prem AD, Azure AD Connect, DNS, DHCP and Group Policy.
• Support Windows Server (2019–2025) and Linux servers.
• Manage VMware and Hyper-V virtualization.
• Support patching via SCCM and Intune.
• Monitor infrastructure with SCOM and respond to alerts.
• Support Citrix virtual apps/desktops environments.
• Support enterprise SAN storage platforms.
• Support backup and disaster recovery processes.
• Develop and run PowerShell scripts and automation.
• Produce technical documentation and runbooks for a local government environment.
• Collaborate with vendors and service teams to deliver infrastructure changes.
