Job summary

Brookhaven is recruiting a Teaching Assistant to join our team in September 2026. This role focuses on supporting SEND pupils within our specialist school, under the guidance of teaching staff to enable access to learning and assist with classroom management.

The ideal candidate will have NVQ 2 or equivalent in teaching assistance, some SEND experience, strong teamwork and safeguarding awareness, and good interpersonal, numeracy and literacy skills.

Qualifications

• NVQ 2 or equivalent in teaching assistance.
• Some experience of working with children with SEND.
• Ability to work effectively within a team environment, understanding classroom roles and responsibilities.
• The ability to promote a positive ethos and role model positive attributes.
• Good level of interpersonal, numeracy and literacy skills.
• An understanding of Safeguarding procedures and can promote welfare and safety of children.

Responsibilities

• Work under the instruction/guidance of teaching staff to undertake work/care/support programmes, to enable access to learning for pupils and to assist the teacher in the management of pupils and the classroom.
• Support pupils with learning, behaviour and welfare in line with school policies and procedures.
