Job summary

The Shaw Education Trust is recruiting a Teaching Assistant to join Brookhaven in September 2026 to support SEND pupils within our specialist school. You will work under the guidance of teaching staff to deliver learning support, care and classroom assistance, enabling access to learning and aiding behaviour management.

We welcome candidates with NVQ 2 or equivalent, experience with SEND, and a collaborative, supportive approach.

Qualifications

• NVQ 2 or equivalent in teaching assistance.
• Some experience of working with children with SEND.
• Ability to work effectively within a team environment.
• Ability to promote a positive ethos and role model positive attributes.
• Good interpersonal, numeracy and literacy skills.
• Understanding safeguarding procedures and promote welfare and safety of children.

Responsibilities

• Work under the instruction/guidance of teaching staff to undertake work/care/support programmes.
• Enable access to learning for pupils and assist the teacher in managing pupils and the classroom.
• Support learning and contribute to a positive, safe learning environment.
