Job summary

TeacherActive is recruiting a Teaching Assistant for a specialist SEND college in Northfield, Birmingham. The role involves supporting 18- to 25-year-old students with severe learning disabilities and physical needs both in class and during community activities.

The successful candidate will work closely with staff to meet learning, personal care and mobility needs while maintaining a safe, positive environment.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children or young adults with severe learning disabilities and physical needs.
• Caring, patient and positive approach to supporting students with additional needs.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a supportive team.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
• DBS check through Update Service or willingness to apply for one.
• Genuine passion for helping young people reach their potential.

Responsibilities

Salary: £90 - £100 per day

TeacherActive is proud to be working with a specialist SEND college based in Northfield, Birmingham. This warm and nurturing setting supports young people aged 18 to 25 with severe learning disabilities and physical needs, offering a caring environment where students are encouraged to develop independence through meaningful learning experiences and regular educational trips within the community.

The college is looking to appoint a Teaching Assistant for flexible day-to-day and short-term cover. The successful Teaching Assistant will support students both in the classroom and during community-based activities, working closely with teaching staff to meet individual learning, personal care and mobility needs while maintaining a safe, positive and engaging environment.

The successful Teaching Assistant will have:

• Experience supporting children or young adults with severe learning disabilities (SLD) and physical needs
• A caring, patient and positive approach to supporting students with additional needs
• The ability to work effectively as part of a supportive team
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
• A Child and Adult Workforce DBS on the Update Service or be happy to apply for one
• A genuine passion for helping young people achieve their full potential
