Job summary

TeacherActive is working with specialist SEND schools in Handsworth, Birmingham to recruit an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant for flexible day-to-day cover starting in September 2026. You will support pupils with Autism across primary and secondary ages, adapting to different classrooms and working closely with teaching staff.

The role is on-site, part-time and temporary, with PAYE pay and a daily rate of £90–£100.

• Experience supporting children and young people with Autism / ASD
• Previous experience working as a SEND Teaching Assistant within UK schools or specialist provisions
• Excellent behaviour management and communication skills
• The ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff
• A patient, caring and adaptable approach
• A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs

The schools are looking to appoint an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant for flexible day-to-day cover starting in September 2026. The successful SEND Teaching Assistant will support pupils with Autism across a variety of age groups, adapting to different classrooms while working closely with teaching staff to ensure every child receives the support they need to achieve their full potential.

The successful SEND Teaching Assistant will have:

• Experience supporting children and young people with Autism / ASD
• Previous experience working as a SEND Teaching Assistant within UK schools or specialist provisions
• Excellent behaviour management and communication skills
• The ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff
• A patient, caring and adaptable approach
• A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
