Job summary

Lancashire County Council is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to support Key Stage 1 pupils with Special Educational Needs at St Gregory's Catholic Primary School in Preston. The role emphasizes working with children who have SEND, including autism, to help them achieve their best in a caring school environment.

The ideal candidate will hold GCSEs in English and Maths and have experience with primary-aged children and SEND support. NVQ level 2 or equivalent is desirable.

Summary We are looking for a dedicated, knowledgeable professional who is committed to getting only the best for the children in their care. In the first instance, the position would be to work with Key Stage 1 children with Special Educational Needs. Experience of working with children with autism would be beneficial to this role.

Standards of attainment and behaviour at our school are good, and we are now ready to move on to the next stage of our journey. We are therefore looking for an enthusiastic TA with an open mind and a ‘can-do attitude’ who can join our supportive team and help to make our mission slogan even more of a reality for the children at St Gregory’s, especially those with SEND.

Essential Qualifications
  • GCSE grade C or above (or equivalent) in English/Literacy and Mathematics/Numeracy
Desirable Qualifications
  • NVQ level 2 or above qualification –appropriate to the post (or equivalent)
Essential Experience
  • Experience of working with or caring for children of primary age
  • Experience of supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs or Disabilities (e.g. autism)
Desirable Experience
  • Experience of supporting pupils with challenging behaviour

The closing date for applications and short-listing is Friday 2nd October 2026, 12 noon.

Observations and interviews will take place on Tuesday 13th October 2026, to be arranged with the school.

Starting date is: Monday 2nd November 2026, or as close to this as possible.
