Job summary

GSL Education is seeking a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to support pupils in Newcastle. You will provide 1:1 support to students with SEND, helping them engage in learning, manage emotions, and build confidence.

The role involves working with pupils with ASD, ADHD, and SEMH, applying positive behaviour strategies, and collaborating with teachers. A patient, resilient, and compassionate approach is essential, with a willingness to provide personal care when required.

Qualifications

• Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEND.
• Experience in behaviour management and supporting challenging behaviour.
• Understanding of emotional regulation and de-escalation strategies.
• A patient, resilient, compassionate, and adaptable approach.
• Confidence providing consistent 1:1 support.
• Willingness to provide personal care where required.
• Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one.

Responsibilities

• Provide tailored 1:1 support to pupils with SEND.
• Support students with ASD, ADHD, and SEMH needs.
• Use positive behaviour management and de-escalation strategies.
• Help pupils manage emotions, engage in learning, and develop independence.
• Build trusting and consistent relationships with students.
• Adapt support to meet individual learning and behavioural needs.
• Provide personal care support where required.
• Work collaboratively with teachers and other support staff.
• Maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
