Job summary

GSL Education is seeking a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to work in schools across Northumberland, supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). This role offers immediate/ongoing opportunities and flexible temporary placements.

You will provide tailored support to pupils with ASD, ADHD and SEMH, helping them engage in lessons, regulate emotions and build confidence and independence. DBS check required.

Qualifications

• Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEND is desirable.
• Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEND.
• Help pupils access classroom activities and learning tasks.
• Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour.
• Use appropriate behaviour management and de-escalation strategies.
• Build trusting and supportive relationships with pupils.
• Encourage independence, confidence, and social development.
• Adapt support to meet individual learning needs.
• Work collaboratively with teachers and other support staff.
• Provide personal care where required.
• Maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
