Job summary

Cover People are recruiting a SEND Teaching Assistant to support secondary students with Autism and Social Communication needs. This full-time, long-term role runs Monday to Friday in a Bury setting, with 1:1 and small-group support and close collaboration with teachers and the SEND team.

Ideal candidates have TA experience in SEND, patience, resilience, and strong communication skills to help students access learning and develop independence.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Teaching Assistant or similar SEND role.
• Experience supporting young people with Autism and/or Social Communication needs.
• Patient, calm and resilient with a positive behaviour approach.
• Confident working with secondary-aged students.
• Able to build rapport quickly and form positive relationships.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Passionate about helping young people progress and become more independent.

Responsibilities

Pay Rate: £95-£110 per day DOE

The Role:

• Support secondary-aged students with Autism and Social Communication needs.
• Provide 1:1 and small-group support both in and outside the classroom.
• Build strong, positive relationships and become a trusted member of the students' support network.
• Help students access learning and overcome barriers to engagement.
• Support communication, social interaction, emotional regulation and independence. Use positive and consistent strategies to manage challenging situations.
• Encourage students to develop confidence, resilience and essential life skills.
• Work closely with teachers and the wider SEND team to provide consistent support.
• Adapt your approach to meet individual students' needs and communication styles.

The Ideal Candidate:

• Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant or working in a similar SEND role.
• Experience supporting young people with Autism and/or Social Communication needs.
• Patient, calm and resilient, with a positive approach to behaviour.
• Confident working with secondary-aged students.
• Able to build rapport quickly and form positive relationships.
• Flexible, proactive and happy to get stuck in.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
