Job summary

Cover People are seeking a Secondary SEND Teaching Assistant to join a SEND school in Bury. This full-time role runs Monday to Friday, 8:30am-3:30pm, with a temp-to-perm path after 12 weeks. Pay is PAYE with DOE and no umbrella companies used. Start date ASAP.

You will support learners with SEND such as Autism/ADHD, employing de-escalation techniques, tailoring instructions, and working closely with teachers and families to foster a positive, inclusive learning environment.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting children with SEND and behavioural needs.
  • Ability to break down tasks and tailor support to individual learners.
  • Effective deputising for class staff when needed.

Responsibilities

  • Support a range of children with SEND including Autism, ADHD, SEMH and communication needs.
  • Identify triggers and use de-escalation techniques to help manage behaviour.
  • Provide tailored support in lessons, breaking down instructions so tasks are achievable.
  • Occasionally support the rest of the class or other staff.
  • Offer encouragement and positive reinforcement to build confidence.
  • Collaborate with teachers, management, support staff, parents and outside professionals.
  • Contribute to a safe, inclusive and collaborative learning environment.

Cover People are hiring for a Secondary SEND Teaching Assistant in Bury.

Role: Secondary SEND Teaching Assistant at a SEND school in Bury.

Start date: ASAP.

Hours: Full time, Monday to Friday, 8:30am-3:30pm.

Contract: Temp-to-Perm - potential to move onto contract at school.

Excellent pay: £(Apply online only)/day DOE for first 12 weeks - paid PAYE direct via Cover People. We don't use umbrella companies!

What you’ll do
  • Supporting a range of children with Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND) including Autism, ADHD, SEMH and Communication Needs.
  • You will need to look out for triggers and employ preventative strategies and de-escalation techniques to help manage their behaviour so that pupils can focus on learning and the teacher can focus on delivery.
  • Tailored support in lessons, breaking down instructions and tasks so they are easily understood and the pupil feels they are achievable.
  • At times you may be required to support the rest of the class or others.
  • Providing lots of encouragement and positive reinforcement.
  • Working closely with the teacher, management, support staff, parents and outside professionals.
  • Contribute to a safe, positive, inclusive and collaborative work environment.

Requirements
  • CV with full history from education to present.
  • Right to Work & Proof of Address in the UK.
  • DBS certificate on the Update Service (or be happy to apply for a new one).
  • Min of 2 professional references.
  • Overseas Police Check if applicable.
  • Some experience supporting primary aged children with behaviour needs.
