Job summary

Axcis Education Recruitment seeks an experienced EYFS / KS1 SEND Teaching Assistant for a specialist provision in Weymouth, supporting pupils with Moderate Learning Difficulties and other needs. You will deliver one-to-one and small group activities, foster early communication and confidence, and work with teachers and therapists to tailor learning experiences.

The role is Monday to Friday, 8:30am-3:30pm, paying £14.25-£14.95 per hour.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children with Special Educational Needs in a school or specialist setting.
  • Knowledge of SEN including MLD/ASC and speech & language needs is advantageous.
  • Calm, patient and nurturing approach; strong communication and teamwork.

Responsibilities

  • Support children with Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD) and associated needs throughout the day.
  • Deliver one-to-one and small group activities tailored to individual abilities.
  • Encourage development of early communication, literacy, numeracy and social skills.
  • Use practical, sensory and play-based learning approaches to engage pupils.
  • Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour.
  • Help pupils develop independence with learning and routines.
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists and SEND team to tailor support.
  • Record pupil progress and contribute to IEPs.
  • Create a safe, inclusive learning environment.

Are you an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant with a passion for supporting young children with additional learning needs? Axcis Education is recruiting a dedicated EYFS / KS1 Teaching Assistant to join a specialist provision in Weymouth. The provision supports pupils with moderate learning difficulties (MLD) and associated additional needs, providing a nurturing, structured and engaging environment where every child is encouraged to achieve their potential. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant or Teaching Assistant who enjoys working with younger children and understands the importance of early intervention in helping pupils develop communication, independence and confidence.

As an EYFS / KS1 SEND Teaching Assistant, you will:
  • Support children with Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD) and associated additional needs throughout the school day
  • Deliver one-to-one and small group learning activities tailored to individual abilities
  • Encourage the development of early communication, literacy, numeracy and social skills
  • Use practical, sensory and play-based learning approaches to engage pupils
  • Support children's emotional regulation and promote positive behaviour
  • Help pupils develop independence with learning and everyday routines
  • Work closely with teachers, therapists and the wider SEND team to deliver personalised support
  • Record pupil progress and contribute to individual education plans
  • Create a safe, stimulating and inclusive learning environment where children can thrive
The successful candidate will have:
  • Experience working with children with Special Educational Needs in a school or specialist setting
  • Knowledge of Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), Autism (ASC), speech and language needs or other developmental needs
  • A calm, patient and nurturing approach
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • The ability to build positive, trusting relationships with children and colleagues
  • A genuine passion for supporting young children with additional needs
Desirable Experience
  • Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification
  • Experience within EYFS, Key Stage 1 or a specialist provision
  • Knowledge of sensory learning, visual communication strategies or Makaton
