Job summary

Axcis Education Recruitment is recruiting a dedicated Teaching Assistant for a specialist primary SEND school in Bournemouth to support pupils with ASC and SEMH. This full-time, term-time only role begins in September 2026 and offers rewarding, student-centred responsibilities.

The successful candidate will provide classroom and 1:1 support, foster emotional regulation, and collaborate with teachers, therapists and families to tailor activities to EHCP outcomes.

Qualifications

SEND Teaching Assistant – Primary SEND School (ASC & SEMH) Location: Bournemouth, Dorset Start Date: September 2026 Pay: £93–£100 per day Contract: Full-Time, Term Time Only

Are you an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant looking for a rewarding new role this September? Axcis Education is working with a fantastic specialist primary SEND school in Bournemouth to recruit a compassionate, resilient and dedicated Teaching Assistant.

This full-time position offers the opportunity to support pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs in a nurturing, well-resourced environment.

This welcoming school is recognised for its child-centred approach, experienced leadership team and commitment to supporting both pupils and staff.

Your responsibilities
  • Providing classroom, small group and 1:1 support for pupils with ASC and SEMH.
  • Promoting emotional regulation, communication and positive behaviour.
  • Building trusting relationships that help pupils feel safe, valued and ready to learn.
  • Supporting personalised learning activities tailored to individual EHCP outcomes.
  • Using positive behaviour support strategies and de-escalation techniques.
  • Working closely with teachers, therapists and families to ensure consistent support.
  • Helping create a calm, engaging and inclusive learning environment.
About You
  • Has experience supporting children or young people with ASC and/or SEMH.
  • Can build positive relationships through patience, empathy and consistency.
  • Has a calm, resilient approach and can confidently manage challenging behaviours.
  • Understands trauma-informed practice and emotional regulation strategies.
  • Has excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Has experience in education, youth work, care, psychology or a similar setting (desirable).
  • Holds an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or is willing to obtain one.
