We are looking for a caring, patient, and committed SEND Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist school in Taunton from September. The school supports children and young people aged 4-19 with a wide range of additional and complex needs. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a dedicated team and provide the personalised support that enables every learner to develop their skills, confidence, independence, and sense of achievement.

The Role:

As a SEND Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with pupils throughout the school day, helping them to access a personalised curriculum and overcome barriers to learning. Depending on individual needs, your role may include supporting pupils with communication, social interaction, emotional regulation, behaviour, learning, and independence. You will work alongside experienced teachers and support staff to create a calm, structured, and engaging environment where every pupil is encouraged to make progress. The school caters for learners across a broad age range, providing an excellent opportunity to develop experience supporting children and young people at different stages of their education.

Your Responsibilities:
  • Provide dedicated 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with SEND
  • Help students access learning and participate in school activities
  • Support communication, social development, and emotional wellbeing
  • Encourage independence and develop practical and life skills
  • Promote positive behaviour and help pupils regulate their emotions
  • Adapt activities and resources to meet individual needs
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and the wider multidisciplinary team
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment
We're Looking For Someone Who:
  • Is patient, compassionate, and resilient
  • Has experience working with children or young people with SEND, either professionally or personally
  • Is confident supporting pupils with a range of additional needs
  • Can build strong relationships and communicate effectively
  • Is adaptable and comfortable working as part of a wider team
  • Has a genuine passion for helping young people achieve their potential

Experience in education, care, residential support, youth work, healthcare, or other SEND settings would be highly beneficial.

Why Apply?
  • Make a meaningful difference to children and young people every day
  • Work within a dedicated specialist education setting
  • Gain valuable experience supporting a wide range of SEND needs
  • Develop skills in communication, behaviour, emotional regulation, and independence
  • Excellent experience for aspiring teachers, psychologists, therapists, social workers, or SEND professionals
  • Full-time role with the potential for longer-term opportunities
  • £50 in shopping vouchers if you refer a friend to us and we place them in the job.

If you're looking for a rewarding role where your patience, compassion, and commitment can have a genuine impact on a young person's life, we'd love to hear from you.

This is a temporary position, unless stated otherwise.
