Job summary

Connex Education in Sheffield is seeking SEND Teaching Assistants for flexible day-to-day supply, long-term placements and permanent opportunities. Immediate starts available with weekly PAYE pay and supportive, local guidance.

You will work with mainstream schools and dedicated SEND provisions, assisting pupils with ASD, ADHD, SEMH and other needs while following school procedures and safeguarding requirements.

Qualifications

• Previous SEND or education support experience is highly desirable.
• An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one through Connex Education.
• The Right to Work in the UK is required.
• Calm, patient and compassionate approach.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one and small group support tailored to individual learning needs.
• Work closely with teachers and school staff to support pupil learning and development.
• Promote pupils’ independence, confidence and emotional wellbeing.
• Follow individual support plans and behaviour strategies in line with school policies; encourage participation in lessons and enrichment activities.

The Role

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you’ll provide individualised support to help pupils overcome barriers to learning, develop confidence and achieve positive outcomes both in and outside the classroom.

Depending on the setting, your responsibilities will include:

• Supporting pupils with a range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
• Providing one-to-one and small group support tailored to individual learning needs
• Working closely with teachers and wider school staff to support pupils’ learning and development
• Promoting pupils’ independence, confidence and emotional wellbeing
• Following individual support plans and behaviour strategies in line with school policiesEncouraging participation in lessons, interventions and enrichment activities
• Building positive and professional relationships with pupils, families and colleagues

• A sound understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures

Due to the nature of these roles, preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate previous experience supporting children or young people with SEND or additional needs within education, care, residential support, youth work or similar settings.
