Premier Education are recruiting experienced SEND / SEMH Teaching Assistants and Learning Support Assistants for September opportunities across mainstream schools, specialist SEND provisions and alternative education settings in the Wigan and surrounding areas.

We welcome candidates with experience supporting children with SEND/SEMH, including autism, ADHD and learning needs. Roles vary from 1:1 to small groups and whole-class support, with DBS update service required.

Responsibilities

  • Support pupils across whole-class settings in SEN provisions.

  • Collaborate with teachers and other staff to promote safe learning environments.
  • Help pupils engage and access learning across settings.

SEND / SEMH Teaching Assistant

Location: Wigan and surrounding areas
Start Date: September 2026

Premier Education are recruiting experienced and enthusiastic SEND / SEMH Teaching Assistants and Learning Support Assistants for a range of September opportunities across mainstream schools, specialist SEND provisions and alternative education settings in the Wigan and surrounding areas.

We are looking to hear from candidates with experience supporting children and young people with a range of additional needs, including autism (ASC), ADHD, SEMH, communication needs, learning difficulties and more complex SEND.

Roles will vary depending on your experience and the needs of the setting. Opportunities may include:

  • Supporting pupils across a whole class within a specialist SEND provision
  • Working with small groups of pupils requiring additional SEND or SEMH support
  • Providing 1:1 support for an individual pupil within a mainstream or specialist setting
  • Delivering targeted interventions to support learning, communication, emotional regulation or social development
  • Supporting pupils to access learning and engage positively with school
  • Working alongside teachers, SENDCos, pastoral teams and other support professionals
  • Helping to create a safe, consistent and supportive learning environment
  • Supporting pupils with varying levels of independence, from mild additional needs through to more complex SEND
Who are we looking for?

We would love to hear from candidates who:

  • Have recent experience supporting children or young people with SEND and/or SEMH needs
  • Are confident adapting their approach to meet individual needs
  • Can build positive, consistent relationships with pupils who may find aspects of school challenging
  • Are patient, resilient and able to promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation
  • Are comfortable working 1:1, with small groups or as part of a whole-class support team
  • Can work collaboratively with teachers and other professionals
  • Have a genuine interest in supporting children and young people to make progress both academically and personally
  • Can provide references covering the last two years of employment
  • Hold an Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service or are willing to apply for one

We welcome applications from experienced SEND Teaching Assistants, Learning Support Assistants, SEMH support staff, Level 2/3 Teaching Assistants and graduates with relevant experience working with children or young people with additional needs.

Experience gained within mainstream schools, SEND schools, alternative provisions, PRUs, residential settings, youth work or other relevant child-focused environments will also be considered.
