Job summary

Resource Base in Stockport is seeking a SEND Support Assistant to join the team from September 2026. You will help pupils with additional needs access learning and make progress within the Resource Base and wider school environment.

We are looking for creative, patient and resilient individuals with a passion for supporting children with needs. A DBS is required and safeguarding compliance is essential.

Qualifications

• Relevant childcare qualification or degree desirable, but experience considered.
• Proven experience with children or vulnerable individuals within the last two years.
• Experience or knowledge of SEND, Autism, ADHD, SEMH or related needs.
• Positive, patient, resilient and proactive attitude.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide dedicated support to pupils with SEND including Autism, ADHD, and SEMH needs.
• Support pupils in the Resource Base and mainstream classes as appropriate.
• Deliver learning, care and support programmes under teacher guidance.
• Offer individual and small-group support to build engagement and confidence.
• Support pupils inside and outside the classroom, following planning and strategies.
• Monitor engagement, behaviour and progress and feed back to staff.
• Build positive relationships and provide nurturing support throughout the day.
• Promote inclusion and ensure pupils participate in school life.

Resource Base | Primary School | Stockport | September 2026 Start We are working with a primary school in Stockport with a dedicated SEND Resource Base, who are looking for a passionate and committed SEND Support Assistant to join their team from September 2026. The successful candidate will support pupils with a range of additional learning, developmental, communication, and behavioural needs, helping them to access learning and make positive progress within the Resource Base and wider school environment.

We are looking for creative, patient, and resilient individuals who are passionate about supporting children with additional needs and can provide the individual encouragement and support they need to thrive.

Responsibilities

• Providing dedicated support to pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, including Autism, ADHD, communication needs, and Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs.

• Supporting pupils within the Resource Base and, where appropriate, helping them to access learning and activities within mainstream classroom settings.

• Working under the guidance of the class teacher and designated staff to deliver appropriate learning, care, and support programmes.

• Providing individual and small-group support to help pupils engage with learning and develop their confidence, independence, and social skills.

• Supporting pupils inside and outside the classroom, following teachers' planning and individual support strategies.

• Monitoring pupils' engagement, behaviour, and progress and feeding back to the relevant staff.

• Building positive and trusting relationships with pupils and providing consistent, nurturing support throughout the school day.

• Supporting the school's approach to inclusion and ensuring pupils are encouraged to participate fully in school life.

Requirements

• A relevant qualification, childcare certification, or degree is desirable (Level 1, 2 or 3, CACHE, NNEB or equivalent), but relevant experience will also be considered.

• Proven experience working with children, young people, or vulnerable individuals within the previous two years.

• Experience or knowledge of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, particularly Autism, ADHD, communication needs, or SEMH.

• A positive, patient, resilient, and proactive attitude.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to monitor pupils' responses and progress and adapt support to meet individual needs.

• A genuine passion for supporting children's learning, development, and wellbeing.

• Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a wider school team.

• Ability to uphold policies and procedures relating to safeguarding, child protection, data protection, and health and safety.
