Job summary

Pink Tile Education Ltd is recruiting for a Teaching Assistant / Learning Support Assistant / Classroom Assistant to join a SEND school in Burgess Hill from 1st September. The role is full-time with a temp-to-perm pathway, Monday to Friday, term-time hours, and a daily rate of £110.

Teaching Assistant / Learning Support Assistant / Classroom Assistant – SEND School

Location: Burgess Hill, West Sussex
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:45am – 4:00pm (5:00pm finish on Tuesdays) – Term Time Only
Pay: £110 per day
Contract: Full-Time | Temp-to-Perm Pathway from Day One
Start Date: 1st September

Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant or Classroom Assistant looking for a rewarding role in Burgess Hill? Do you have experience supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)?

Pink Tile Education is working with a fantastic SEND school in Burgess Hill that is looking to appoint a dedicated Teaching Assistant / Learning Support Assistant to join its friendly and highly supportive team from 1st September.

This welcoming Burgess Hill school supports both primary and secondary-aged pupils with a wide range of SEND needs. Every student receives an individualised approach to learning, with a strong focus on communication, emotional wellbeing and independence. The school has excellent facilities, outstanding resources and an experienced staff team who work together to provide the very best outcomes for every pupil.

As a Teaching Assistant, you'll support students with a range of additional needs, including more complex learning, communication and sensory needs. Some pupils use alternative communication methods, so experience with Makaton, PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System), visual symbols or other communication aids would be highly beneficial.

The school would also love to hear from Learning Support Assistants, Classroom Assistants, carers or support workers who have experience helping children regulate their emotions using distraction techniques, sensory strategies and relationship-based approaches. Whether your SEND experience comes from a professional role or your personal life, your skills and understanding could make a real difference.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Working as a Teaching Assistant / Learning Support Assistant supporting pupils across both the primary and secondary departments.

  • Supporting children with a wide variety of SEND needs, including complex communication needs.

  • Using communication strategies such as Makaton, PECS, visual symbols and other alternative communication methods where appropriate.

  • Supporting students with emotional regulation using distraction techniques, sensory approaches and positive behaviour strategies.

  • Building trusting relationships that encourage confidence, independence and engagement.

  • Working closely with teachers, therapists and the wider SEND team to deliver personalised support.

  • Helping pupils achieve their individual academic, social and emotional goals.

What We're Looking For
  • Experience as a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Classroom Assistant, Support Worker or similar role.

  • Personal or professional experience supporting children or young people with SEND.

  • Knowledge of Makaton, PECS, visual symbols or alternative communication methods would be an advantage.

  • Experience supporting emotional regulation through calming techniques, distraction strategies or sensory approaches.

  • A calm, patient and resilient attitude.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships.

  • A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.
