Job summary

Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant for a specialist primary school in Bury to start September 2026. You will work closely with teachers, therapists and support staff to help pupils access learning and meet individual targets.

This role involves 1:1 and group support, adapting activities to suit communication, sensory and developmental needs, and promoting confidence, independence and wellbeing in a warm, inclusive setting.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children with special educational needs in a classroom setting.
• Understanding of PMLD, SLD, or ASD and how to support such needs.
• Patient, resilient and caring approach with strong communication and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with PMLD, SLD and ASD.
• Deliver personalised learning programmes linked to EHCP outcomes.
• Adapt classroom activities to meet individual learning and sensory needs.
• Support communication through PECS, Makaton, visual timetables and other systems.
• Promote positive behaviour through consistency, patience and relationships.
• Facilitate sensory- and play-based learning to support development.
• Support personal care tasks as required (feeding, toileting, mobility).
• Maintain a safe, inclusive learning environment.

Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist primary school in Bury from September 2026.

• Support personal care requirements, including feeding, changing, toileting, and mobility assistance where required
• Help maintain a safe, engaging, and inclusive learning environment

• Experience supporting children or young people with special educational needs
• Understanding of, or experience working with, pupils with PMLD, SLD, or ASD
• A patient, resilient, and caring approach
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Confidence supporting pupils with complex learning needs
• Ability to adapt to changing situations and individual requirements
• Commitment to a full-time, long-term position
• Comfortable providing personal care support where required

• Knowledge of PECS, Makaton, AAC, or other communication strategies
• Teaching Assistant qualification or relevant SEN training
• Previous experience in a specialist school or SEND environment
