Monarch Education is recruiting on behalf of an SEND primary school in Rugby for the position of a Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Teaching Assistant. This is a full-time position required to start as soon as possible (ASAP).
Job Specification
The successful candidate will be a qualified and experienced Teaching Assistant with proven experience in supporting children with a range of SEND within a school environment.
Key Responsibilities And Requirements
- Qualifications:
- Mandatory: Hold a Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or a similar relevant qualification.
- Experience:
- Essential experience supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) within a UK primary school setting. This is a mandatory requirement.
- Experience working with children with a variety of needs (e.g., Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD), Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (EBD)).
- Experience in implementing Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) or support plans.
- Skills and Knowledge:
- Understanding of different SEND conditions and effective strategies for supporting children with these needs.
- Ability to build positive and supportive relationships with children, fostering their independence and confidence.
- Skill in adapting learning activities and resources to meet individual needs.
- Ability to work effectively under the direction of the class teacher and/or SENDCo.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, able to liaise effectively with pupils, staff, parents, and external professionals.
- Knowledge of safeguarding procedures within a school setting.
- Support and Intervention:
- Provide one-to-one or small group support to pupils with SEND, both within the classroom and in separate intervention sessions.
- Assist pupils with their academic learning, providing clarification and encouragement.
- Support pupils with social and emotional development, promoting positive interactions and behaviour.
- Assist with personal care needs where required (depending on the specific needs of the pupils).
- Help create a positive and inclusive classroom environment for all pupils.
- Professional Attributes:

- Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
- The ability to be proactive and take initiative within the scope of the role.
- A commitment to the well-being and progress of children with SEND.
- The ability to work effectively as part of a team.
