Job summary

Axcis Education Recruitment is seeking a SEND Tutor to support students aged 9-16 on a 1:1 basis and in small groups across the curriculum. You will help learners access a bespoke curriculum and collaborate with teachers and support staff.

The role requires driving between sites around Totnes, with a permanent contract (temp-to-perm option available) and hours 8.45am–4.45pm, Monday to Friday. Salary ranges from £23,250 to £32,756 depending on experience.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting SEMH students is beneficial but not required.
  • Ability to drive and commute between sites around Totnes.
  • Comfortable working with 9–16 age group across curriculum.

Job description

We are looking for an SEND Tutor (across the curriculum) to support students aged 9-16 on a 1:1 basis and small group basis, ensuring they are well supported and have access to a bespoke curriculum, tailored to their needs.

Key Information:
  • Salary ranges from £23,250-£32,756, depending on SEND experience and qualifications.
  • Hours: Monday to Friday, 8.45am – 4.45pm
  • Position: Permanent (Temp to perm option available)
  • Start Date: 7th September 2026
About the Role:

Working alongside teachers and support staff, you will play a key role in helping students access learning, develop confidence, and engage positively with school life.

You must be able to drive, as part of your role will be commuting between sites in and around Totnes.

You must have an enthusiasm for supporting students with complex needs, who may struggle to self-regulate.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Supporting students with SEMH on a one-to-one basis and in small groups (predominantly Maths & English support)
  • Assisting with classroom activities and learning tasks
  • Encouraging positive behaviour and emotional development
  • Helping to create a calm, structured, and nurturing environment
About the School:
  • The school supports students aged 9–16 whose needs cannot be met in mainstream education.
  • All pupils have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) related to Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
